Hockey India Names 28-Man Squad for Olympic Camp

Hockey India has unveiled its plans for the Paris Olympics, revealing a 28-member core probable group for the men’s national coaching camp. The camp, underway at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru until May 13, signifies a crucial phase in the team’s preparation for the prestigious event.

The decision to convene the coaching camp follows a challenging outing for the team, marked by a 0-5 defeat in a five-match Test series in Australia. Chief coach Craig Fulton sees this setback as a catalyst for renewed focus, stressing the need to address weaknesses and refine strategies.

Fulton’s optimism about the upcoming training block reflects the blend of experience and youth within the squad. He emphasizes the importance of achieving peak physical and tactical readiness ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Reflecting on lessons learned from the Australia tour, Fulton underscores the team’s commitment to rectifying shortcomings promptly. This proactive approach aims to ensure that the team is well-prepared for both the final leg of the Pro League and the Paris Olympics.

The core group selected for the coaching camp includes seasoned goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak, PR Sreejesh, and Suraj Karkera, along with a solid defensive unit featuring Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, and others.

In midfield, the team is anchored by stalwarts like Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, and Vivek Sagar Prasad. The forward line boasts a dynamic mix of talent, including Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay.

Looking ahead, the team’s schedule includes crucial fixtures in the FIH Pro League, with matches in Belgium and London against formidable opponents like Argentina, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain. These encounters provide invaluable opportunities to fine-tune strategies and gauge readiness for the pinnacle event in Paris.

As the countdown to the Olympics gains momentum, Hockey India’s meticulous planning and rigorous training regimen underscore its determination to excel on the global stage. With a talented pool of players and a strategic approach, the team is poised to showcase their prowess and vie for Olympic glory in Paris.
