Nothing, the innovative tech startup founded by Carl Pei, is making waves once again with its latest announcement: a deeper integration of ChatGPT into its smartphones and earbuds. This move aims to provide Nothing’s customers with quicker and more convenient access to the widely popular AI service.
In a recent blog post, Nothing unveiled its plans for the integration, stating that users with the latest Nothing OS and ChatGPT installed on their Nothing phones will be able to seamlessly access the AI tool directly from Nothing earbuds. This integration will allow users to simply pinch-to-speak to engage with ChatGPT, making interactions smoother and more intuitive. Notably, both the new Nothing Ear and Ear (a) models will be supported.
According to spokesperson Jane Nho, the gradual rollout of the integration will commence on April 18th, starting with Phone 2, followed by Phone 1 and Phone 2A in the subsequent weeks. Once the update is implemented, users will have the ability to query ChatGPT using Nothing’s earbuds, effectively selecting ChatGPT as their preferred digital assistant for Nothing’s buds.
But Nothing’s ambitions don’t end there. The company plans to enhance the user experience on Nothing smartphones even further by embedding system-level entry points to ChatGPT. This includes features like screenshot sharing and Nothing-styled widgets, all aimed at streamlining user interactions and maximizing convenience.
This strategic move by Nothing marks a departure from the rocky start experienced by other AI gadgets in the market, such as the Humane AI Pin. While others are venturing into new hardware categories, Nothing is leveraging its existing devices to enhance user experiences. Importantly, the company is not imposing this integration on its users; those who do not have ChatGPT installed on their phones will not experience any changes.
